John W. CulpRev. John Wesley Culp has been senior Pastor at Virginia Wingard UMC since 2005. He was ordained in 1972 after receiving degrees from the University of South Carolina (B.A. 1967 and Candler School of Theology at Emory in Atlanta (Master of Divinity, 1971).
Rev. Culp has served United Methodist churches in Liberty, Hampton, Aiken, Greenville, Bennettsville and West Columbia. In 2003, the Governor presented him the Order of the Palmetto Award in recognition of John’s long-standing work with Salkehatchie, a ministry to low-income people. In 2008 he was presented the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award by USC.
John was elected to the ministerial delegation to the 2004 and 2008 General Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has been married to Peggy for 40 years. They have two grown children, Wes and Chris and three grandsons.
